Set sail on the Adventure of a Lifetime!
Camp will be held June 18-20th, 2013 in Morris, MN for youth just completing grades 3-6.

Tracks include:
Tiki Technology: explore the exciting world of engineering by building and programming a cool robot using the Lego Mindstorms educational program. Campers will also bring home a robot of their own creation!

Island Improv: Work with the staff in the Theatre Department at UMM, where you will learn the basics of acting, costuming and performing on stage. The finale will be a production performed by the track participants, with the rest of the campers as the audience!

Media Mateys: see what it's like to produce a movie. Campers will be able to create and edit their own news story. Campers will also be posting on this blog for parents to see!

Coconut Creations: Campers will learn the basics of sculpting. Staff from the UMM Studio Art Department will guide campers to create objects of their own design. On the last day of camp, they will host an Art Show to display their creations to the rest of the campers!

Thank You

Thank you for allowing us to spend 3 wonderful days at 4-H camp with your child!  I can speak for Brian and all of the counselors that it was truly a fun packed 3 days.

Sorry I was unable to post more pictures at the end of camp.  Dealing with 128 youth was definitely more time consuming and I wanted to be able to enjoy the experience with them!  Hopefully next year we'll be more prepared for the influx of campers!

We are already throwing around ideas for camp tracks for next year.  If you have any suggestions please pass them on to your 4-H Program Coordinator.

I have all pictures that were taken at camp (400+) uploaded to the 4-H Smug Mug account.  Feel free to browse and take any pictures you want.  These are pictures from me and some of the counselors so they will not be in any particular order.  I believe you can "right click" and "save picture as" and you can save to your computer to print at your favorite location.

Again - thank you for sharing your child with us.  I hope they enjoyed themselves as much as we enjoyed them!

The Game of Bonkers

Forewarning:  Your kids will come home covered in marker - some more than others - but it is from washable crayola markers.  They may need to scrub in the tub for a while tonight.

It's all in the name of fun in the game of Bonkers.  You'll notice I made the video "what I like best of camp so far" yesterday because if I would have waited until today to do it, all I would have heard was "Bonkers"!

For those of you new to 4-H camp, I will do my best to explain...

1st - you want to run and run as fast as you can hoping to escape a "bonker".  These crazy camp counselors are running around with noodles trying to bonk you.
If you get bonked, they mark you with their marker.
 And you are frozen...

To get unfrozen, you must yell for a "medic" to come and save you.  These nice camp counselors wear the red cross symbol on their shirt and they tend to move a little slow in getting to you.
BUT, before they unfreeze you, they will ask you to perform some silly trick like singing a silly song as this camper is doing.  The medic will then unmark the mark of the bonker and you are free to run again.

How do you win?  You must find the rest of the counselors who are hiding on the grounds and perform a task.  Such as stringing noodles onto a straw
Or unwrapping Hershey Kisses with winter gloves on
Or trying to juggle 3 balls.
But look hard because some counselors are hard to find such as Jayson who was hiding up in a tree.  After you've completed their task you get their signature.  First 1 to get all signatures wins.  BUT, there is a trick - only 3 people can be in line for the task.  If you are 4th in line and a bonker comes along, they can bonk you and you will be out!
You will notice some kids might come home with lots of marks while others come home with only 1 or 2.  We have found that some kids just like to get bonked and saved.  While others prefer claiming their bonk free status!

Some Minute to Win It Competition...

These 2 are vying for the championship of Giants, Wizards, Elfs.  Very similar to Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Giant steps on Elf so she wins!

My favorite thing about camp so far is...

Another fun video starring our 4-H Campers...

Snow White and the Forgotten Dwarfs

Here's the play the Island Improv group performed today.  Each camper in this track is receiving a jump drive with this play on it.  We were having slight technical difficulties so hopefully all jump drives have it on!  If not, please contact your program coordinator and we'll find a way to get you a copy of the play.

Media Mateys Final Product!

25 4-Hers participated in the Media Matey track at camp.  Their mission?  To use different forms of media to highlight their camp experience!  Each camper will be bringing home a 4-H Camp Times Newsletter with articles about different aspects of camp (Print Media).  We also learned about video media and made these awesome videos!  Check them out!
